Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hitachi DB3DL 3.6-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless ScrewdriverCustomer Review: A Real User Summary: 5 Stars
This is an awesome tool. I was using a RYOBI driver for my work driver. This screwdriver is faster, lighter, has more torque and the battery lasts for weeks in my application. Make sure to lock the driver before putting it in a tool bag or it will turn on. The price was the best I found.
Customer Review: A little disappointed. Summary: 2 Stars
I was surprised to find that the drill comes with a case and extra battery but only one bit. Why would you sell a power tool with only one bit. And its a Phillips head bit. That's like buying a car but they give you no gas in the tank. I just expected it to have a few bits. I had to spend another $35 for bits from hitachi. Some of those bits do not even fit his drill/driver. I will be very skeptical when buying online and hitachi products.
Customer Review: Amazing little driver Summary: 5 Stars
I just ordered my fourth Hitachi driver. This is the best little driver I've ever used and I've used a few. The first I bought for my job in February of 2008. I used it to assemble 10 racks of computer equipment in a lab in North Carolina. It worked so well there that I bought another one for the lab where I normally worked. That one worked just as well for assembling a lab in Illinois. I bought one for my personal use about the same time, from Amazon of course. My personal driver didn't get the extreme use that the drivers in my labs got, but I used it on many projects. I don't do lab admin anymore so I don't know how the drivers in the labs are doing. This spring a group of us started building a pole barn and my driver came in handy for that too. Tonight I was working on a wiring project in the barn and my favorite tool finally gave up the ghost after over two and a half years. Too many long screws driven into treated lumber and a few too many drops from the ladder I guess. It gave me a good run. I came right in the house when it got too dark to work and ordered another one. I even specified one day shipping because I have lots of work to do and I want my favorite tool back.
Customer Review: An Excellent Tool for the Workplace Summary: 5 Stars
I wasn't certain this was the tool to get but I made the right decision. I haven't had a bit of trouble and I have really put it to work. My position as a bench technician has me constantly either tearing down or reassembling a piece of delicate electronic equipment. The smooth action and torque settings have eliminated the occasional stripped Phillip head or plastic case. I have only had to recharge the battery once and the second battery is just now starting to slow after a week on the job. Nice!
Customer Review: An excellent screwdriver for the pro Summary: 5 Stars
I've used a Skill screwdriver for years until I couldn't get replacement batteries anymore. Then, I bought a Black and Decker screwdriver that worked fine, but the batteries were dying and the model is discontinued. My co-worker bought a new Bosch, very small & light weight but still too big to keep in a tool pouch. His Bosch won't take a combination screwdriver bit without buying an extra adapter. I was looking at the Milwaukee with vari-speed for well over $100 and just couldn't justify the purchase. Finally, I got the Hitachi DB3DL 3.6 Li-Ion. It is an amazing tool. If you set the clutch to a reasonable number, you don't really need the variable speed. The high speed setting is very fast for removing & inserting screws, and the lower speed is good if you need more torque. Yes, there is room for improvement in the design. For example, the forward/reverse switch is on the side instead of the top. That takes getting used to, but not a major problem. It has a trigger lock on the top which I don't seem to need. If I want to tighten a screw more than the clutch allowed, I just turn the tool like a regular screwdriver and I'm done.
I haven't had any problem with bits falling out as some reviewers reported, and also, haven't had any problem with the tool folding when it wasn't supposed to. My combination bit (straight/Phillips head) fits nicely in the Hitachi & it's a breeze to switch it around from one type to the other.
The tool is small enough to fit in my tool pouch and overall, it's an amazing, powerful, convenient little tool. If you're a pro, I think you'll really like it. Just have a little patience to get used to it so that you can use it to it's greatest advantage.
