Customer Review: Bits didn't
Summary: 3 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
So, had a drilling job to do. Figured it was a perfect time to test out my new bit set... the drill bit didn't cut into the substrate! Useless. The screwdriver bits are very good. OK set.

Customer Review: Can't beat that price, but you get what you pay for

Obviously these tools are made in China with a price like this. In general, that's usually not a sign you find on a product of high quality. It's a sign of a product that is trying to undercut competitors with cheap labor and substandard components.

If you're a person that works with tools like this for a living, you probably already understand why you don't buy cheap tools. They don't last or break at the worst times. If you're just a homeowner who wants to have the tools you need when you need them, then these are probably for you. It's an extremely economical kit. It's an almost-complete set of bits for at least 1/3 less than the nearest quality competitor.

There's a few key points that tip me off that I will see one of the drill bits break after only moderate usage. They make no point what quality metal is used. They just say they have a special coating -- titanium or zirconium nitride. So basically it's crap metal wrapped in a nice hard coating. A fine coating won't stop the bits from cracking under heat or chipping with an impact drill (though they're not advertised as impact-duty bits). But this is to be expected from such a set of bits at such a low cost.

There of course is a Lifetime Warranty, but normal wear and tear is not covered. I haven't actually tested out this Lifetime Warranty, but I guarantee you that it's not the same type of Lifetime Warranty you see in Craftsman tools. Many people will be fooled by this, so buyer beware. This Lifetime Warranty is against manufacturing defect only.

The other problem with this set is that it uses square drive bits along with the usual slotted and phillips. But many screw manufacturers are making star-drive bits now. My local Home Depot no longer carries square drive bits -- only star. So I don't know if square drive is going away or what, but this set will do you no good if you need that star drive.

The cases for the bits are badly designed -- the drill bit holders especially. Putting one of the drill bits back in its slot is difficult. You have to slide it down, which means you have to put your finger tips on the cutting part of the drill bit. They don't go in easily either. I tried pressing the bit down into its slot, but the nubs that hold it down broke off. All of the bit holders are like that, but the drill bits pose a bigger threat to finger tip damage. Also, the labels for the cases are underneath if you were to hold the cases like you hold a book. So you don't really know which is which until you flip them over.

Other than that, this is an adequate set of bits that will do fine as a light-duty set. It's cheap, and there's a lot of useful pieces that work with both chucked and quick-release drills. In a word: average.

I recently picked up a set of Milwaukee impact-duty bits for around $12 here on Amazon. It includes star drive in addition to phillips, square, and slotted -- also 3 differently-sized hex bits. I am very satisfied with that set even though it's a bit more pricey per-bit than this set. You get what you pay for most of the time. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Customer Review: Good Bits, But the cases need some work
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This is a perfectly good set of bits. The heads are sharp and the shafts straight and true. The quick-release set works fine and the driver set has plenty of sizes to match your fastener.

The cases look good and open easily, but getting the individual bits in and out can be quite difficult. The drill bits especially fit in the slots so tightly it can really be a struggle to free them.

Customer Review: Good assortment, but low end quality
Summary: 2 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This is a so-so set of drills. On the plus side you do get a good assortment of bits, drills and adapters that will cover the majority of drilling needs (other than specialized tasks such as drilling through masonry). But, if you're looking for quality, this is not the set to pick. As you can expect from the price, you're getting bargain basement quality - the drills wobble a small amount, and the cases are very difficult to use when trying to take out or put back drills (especially the thin drills). Cheap price, but really cheap quality.

If you want to spend the least amount of money per bit, this is an OK purchase. If, however, you want a decent quality set that will last, you'll want to pass on this.

I was torn between three stars and two, but given how poorly designed the case is, I'll err on the low side and assign it a two star rating.

Customer Review: Good for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

I really like this set of drill and driver bits. For the price they can't be beat. They come in three cases so they should stay nicely organized. The case also has a pull down lock to keep them closed in your tool box.
